Off-road footpegs for enduro and motocross
When riding off-road, off-road footpegs provide much of the rider’s support when standing up and changing position on the motorcycle. The platform shape and contact with the sole influence how secure the footing feels and how freely you can reposition your feet.
At Non Stop Bikes, we supply spare parts and riding gear for enduro. We help you choose footpegs according to the terrain, your preferred position and compatibility with your motorcycle.
Support surface and boot grip
Platform width and shape
A larger platform provides more surface area to support your boot. However, it must still allow you to move your foot and reach the gear lever and brake pedal without interference. Compare its dimensions with your current footpegs and the soles of your boots.
The outline also matters: two footpegs with similar dimensions can provide a different feel underfoot.
Teeth and grip elements
Contact with the boot depends on the profile, height and distribution of the teeth, as well as the condition of the sole. More pronounced teeth can provide greater grip, but they also affect how easily you can reposition your foot and how the boot wears.
Do not choose solely by the number of teeth. Check the overall design and whether the grip elements are fixed or replaceable.
Open design for muddy terrain
Open platforms help dirt and mud clear from between the support points. Even so, a build-up of dirt can affect contact with the sole and the folding mechanism. Check both areas when cleaning the motorcycle.
What to consider for each off-road discipline
Footpegs for enduro and hard enduro
On routes with rocks, roots and ruts, consider grip with dirty boots, platform construction and the condition of the mounting points. A larger support surface should be combined with a design suited to the terrain and enough space to move your foot.
Footpegs for motocross
For motocross, look for a clearly defined point of support that allows you to change position on the motorcycle. Check contact with the boot, the security of the mounting and wear on the teeth, particularly with frequent use.
Original, lowered or offset positions
Some footpegs retain the original position; others change the height or fore-and-aft offset. Adjustable versions are also available. These options are not present on every model.
A lower or further-back position is not automatically better. It changes the relationship between your feet, seat and handlebars, and may require you to reassess access to the brake and gear lever. Only use configurations specified by the manufacturer.
Cleaning and inspection after rides
- Remove mud from the platform and pivot.
- Check for damaged teeth, cracks or deformation.
- Check pins and mounting brackets for play.
- Check that folding footpegs return correctly.
- Replace worn components with compatible spare parts.
Lubrication and maintenance requirements depend on the mechanism. Follow the instructions for the fitted product and avoid applying products that leave the support surface slippery.
